This course will engage in a “conversation” with the cultural effects and responses of modern Japanese culture’s contact with international cultures. The focus is the the Japanese-US relationship. Course materials will include primary and secondary materials such as books, documents, broadcasts, and photos. The aim is to introduce aspects of Japanese culture that responds to international contact, especially that with America. Most will be new to the students. This class will be in English. It is for students who want to learn about culture in English. Most of the teaching materials are also available in Japanese.
教育、遊び、家族、年齢、発達、ジェンダーなどの分析を通して児童の過去と現在を比較、考察します。世界中の大人の共通点は、みんなが児童期を体験していること。しかし共通点があっても、子どものころに学んだことは文化、時代によって異なります。映画や文学において児童のあり方と役割をどう定義しているか、逆にその定義は社会の何を反映しているかを探ります。
