About the seminar:Knowing Japan, Knowing China

Asia's presence in the world is so great that it is now said to be the Asian century. However, there has not been enough discussion about how Asia and Asia (Japan), and Asia and the world should be, and the fact is that distorted images of Asia are still prevalent. Therefore, let's reexamine the mutual perception of Asia (China) and Asia (Japan), and Asia and the West, and think about what Asia is from Japan's perspective. In the first term, we will read materials and ask what multiculturalism and cultural relativity are. We will also look at the historical background, related matters, and people involved from three perspectives: "Asia seeing Asia," "Seeing from Asia," and "Seeing Asia from the West," and discuss their significance. In the second term, each person will list things that interest them about China and Japan, and explore each other's interests and concerns.
