My research started with a simple question. I urge all students to find their own question and work hard on it.

Research Contents

I am researching the history of aviation in the United States from the 1930s to the 1960s. Recently, I have also become interested in the history of aviation in Japan during the formation of the international aviation order from World War II to the Cold War, and in the Pacific region, particularly the relationship between militarism and tourism in Hawaii and Okinawa.

About the seminar:Having a global penspective with wings

I am researching the history of aviation, which was born in the United States in the early 20th century. Aviation not only fulfilled the dream of humankind to fly in the skies but also played an important role in connecting countries and people. Americans considered aviation technology to be "winged gospel." In the second half of the 20th century, aviation also reflected the demands of a diversifying society, such as the realization of racial and gender equality among air passengers. Aviation is a field related to the diplomacy, politics, and society of the United States, and has had a great impact on aviation in Japan. In this seminar, we will deepen our research on the politics, economy, and society of the United States, including aviation, from a comparative perspective between Japan and the United States.
