Let's develop our imagination and creativity through our university life.
Japanese history, history of relations between Japan and the Korean Peninsula from the 17th to 19th centuries
Focusing on the history of early modern Japan and the history of early modern Japan-Korea relations, I am thinking about the relationships between people, and between people and society, and how society works.
In this seminar, we will start by getting to know individuals throughout history, focusing on the relationship between Japan and the Korean Peninsula. When the two countries had a "friendly" relationship, did the people of both countries get along well? What about during times of "bad relations"? In some cases, people deepen their exchanges beyond cultural differences, in other cases, they do not, and in other cases, they do not know each other at all. When we look at individuals, society cannot be depicted in such a simple manner. Even today, Asia is often highlighted as an international issue, but images take precedence and proper mutual understanding does not occur. Let's get to know others, especially their history and cultural backgrounds, and gain a multifaceted perspective that goes beyond "simple understanding" such as likes and dislikes, good and bad.
