About the seminar:Thinking about people and nature through face reading

We will look at and read Chinese and Japanese face divination manuals side by side, and examine the cultural differences between China and Japan from the differences between them. Chinese face divination has a long history, and was already all the rage in the 3rd century BC. Chinese face divination embodies China's traditional perspective on the body and nature. Face divination manuals were imported from China during the Edo period in Japan, and became widely read, but how did Japan accept the Chinese view of the body and nature? Also, what influence has it had on our way of thinking today? And what does it mean to "fortune tell"? While reading the original texts, let's consider the logic and philosophy of face divination, which continues to this day.
